#1 Sports Recap Journal

    1) Fans on both sides held their breath as the score was consistently closer than anyone could have predicted. The University of South Florida Bulls gained momentum as the game progressed, over the University of Florida Gators. With a 20-yard field goal, USF defeated UF, defined by a final score of 18-16. The third-quarter lead carried the Bulls all the way to victory over #13 UF. This brought USF up to a Top 25 spot, coming in at #17, after previously being unranked before this win. USF now has a 2-0 record for this season, and UF is 1-1.

#2  Sports Memoir Recap and PR Journal

    2) When writing the Sports Memoir, I had some differing ideas with my peer reviewer. I was able to bridge the ideas and come up with solutions for various things, such as paragraph breaks. I also had to get back into creative writing after simply doing research papers for quite some time.

     3) Mr. Satterfield shared his experience with public relations, and I learned a lot about what it is like to be in PR and work with both athletes and the media. My biggest takeaway from this is to plan questions appropriately and intelligently when interviewing an athlete or anyone else. It is extremely important to be a respectful interviewer, and this will also help you gather the best responses.

#3 Entry #3

   4) Today, the fact that I have an event with Panhellenic, making charm bracelets and getting coffee and ice cream brings me joy. I also have a yoga class to attend, which will make me happy and at ease.

   5) I enjoyed writing the press release as I felt that I had a lot of creative freedom. I was able to step into the roles of news reporters, editors, and writers to create a piece about subjects that I like. The peer review helped, and I am happy with my final product.

   6) This assignment has changed how I view sports news in some respects. It showed me how much work goes into understanding AP style and all of the small details that help develop a singular press release. The assignment provided me with behind-the-scenes insight.

#4) Entry #4

7) My greatest takeaway from attending the presentation by our guest Speaker, Peter Holland Jr., is that connections and networking matters. As an undergraduate student, I should be taking advantage of as many professional opportunities as possible.

8) My progress with Project 3: Sports Feature Article has been sufficient. I have developed my questions and lined up my interview with a clear plan in mind.

9) In order to have my first draft ready for Tues, Nov. 13th, I will complete my interview during this school week and write the article itself this weekend. I have a basic outline of what I want the feature article to look like, but things are subject to change based on my interviewee’s answers.

#5) Entry #5

10) My greatest takeaway from the InDesign Workshop is that I now know how to easily make a layout for a feature or magazine-style article. I can use the tools at the studio for that as well as their poster printing resources.

11) I plan to finish the semester strong by editing my final projects to be the best that they can be. I will submit everything by their respective due dates.
